In line with the big ideas and core competencies of the new curriculum, this interactive workshop provides resources for teachers and their students to create peaceful learning communities, and to discuss current global realities. Activities will incorporate the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, discuss the effects of war and violence on children and youth, and look at the Canadian military's marketing campaign that specifically targets Aboriginal populations. Lesson sequences will be provided and explored surrounding the Palestine-Israel Conflict, and the Olympic Truce. The latter was recently revived by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to emphasize the role sport can play in building a more peaceful world.
